The member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency of Delta State in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Mrs.) Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Erhiatake is the daughter of the influential former governor of Delta State between 1999 and 2007, Chief James Onanefe Ibori.

Also, four House of Representatives members elected on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) have defected to the APC.

The four LP lawmakers who joined APC include; Tochukwu Chinedu Okere (Imo), Donatus Matthew (Kaduna), Akiba Bassey (Cross River) and Esosa Iyawe (Edo).

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, announced the defections of the lawmakers through letters he read upon resumption of plenary on Thursday.

The lawmakers blamed their defection to the ruling APC on the lingering internal crisis and factionalisation in the LP and PDP.

It was gathered that Ibori’s daughter defection followed her non-inclusion in the activities of the party since the emergence of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Ibori was one of the politicians in Delta who kicked against the choice of Oborevwori as former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s successor during the 2023 general election.

However, despite Ibori’s opposition to the candidacy of Oborevwori, Okowa mobilised resources to back the emergence of the current governor, who was the Speaker of the State House of Assembly at the time.
