A midday inferno which gutted a section of the popular Igbudu Market in Agbarha Warri in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State has been blamed on cooking gas explosion.
It was gathered that the explosion was said to have occurred at a local canteen in one of the buildings along Nupe Line of the Igbudu market on Wednesday.
Igbudu Market is one of the biggest markets in Warri and Delta State. The market plays host to people from across the country.
Sources claimed that the canteen operator was about putting on the cooking gas when the cylinder suddenly exploded.
According to sources, no fewer than 25 shops with goods running into multi-million naira were razed in the fire incident.
The scene of the fire incident was said to be few distance away from a warehouse where insecticides and other flammable materials are stored leading to escalation of the inferno.
Although no life was loss in the incident, some buildings and properties belonging to traders in the area were damaged during the outbreak.
However, men of the Delta State Fire Service and supported by traders were able to put out the fire thereby preventing it for spreading to other parts of the market.
Some of the traders whose shops were razed pleaded with the Federal and Delta governments to come to their aid considering the economic challenges currently bedeviling the country.
They lamented that all their lives savings and goods were burnt in the unfortunate fire incident.
