Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have reportedly kidnapped Edo State Head of Service, Mr. Anthony Okungbowa

Okungbowa was allegedly abducted along Benin/Agbor Road while returning from a function on Saturday.

The gunmen also reportedly killed his driver.

He was said to be heading back to Benin, the state capital, from Oza in Orhionmwon Local Government Area where he had attended a function organised by the DG, Edo House Abuja, Festus Osaigbovo on Saturday.

Osaigbovo was said to have put up the event to celebrate September 19 governorship election in Edo won by Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Although details of the incident were still sketchy at the time of filing this report, multiples within the Edo State Government confirmed the development.

Efforts to get official confirmation from the spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, proved abortive as calls to his telephone ranged out.
