Hate Speech: Bayelsa Elders, Religious Leaders Urged To Caution Gov Dickson

Governor Dickson of Bayelsa State

By Sampson Boroh

Elders and religious leaders in Bayelsa State have been called upon to caution to the state governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson over alleged derogatory remarks against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 16 Governorship election, Chief David Lyon.

An APC chieftain, Barr. Edi Orubi, made the call on Monday in Yenagoa, the state capital, in a statement made available to newsmen.

Orubi contended that the alleged unguarded remarked by the outgoing governor are capable of fueling the political tension in the state and in turn create unnecessary crisis among political opponents.

According to him,” Recent developments in the state have prompted me to speak up against what I describe as blatant disregard for humanity and insult on the same people the present administration in Bayelsa state has stolen from.

“Only recently I watched as Governor Dickson shamelessly and openly addressed a gathering and described the opposition Governorship flag bearer in different unprintable words when the state capital is a crying example of how he is oppressing the citizens he has stolen from to maintain his elite and first class status.

“Majority of Bayelsa people are suffering from oppression and deprivation and yet the governor has preoccupied himself with trivial issues while he continues to demonstrate the highest form of disregard and impoverishment on the people he governs.

“The governor has continued to emphasis that some people are not educated enough to take up leadership positions when his educated leadership style has thrown the state into absolute chaos, darkness and has denied the people of the freedom to exercise their rights to control what rightfully belongs to them.

On the recent avalanche of political appointments being made by Governor Dickson, Orubo described the action as signs of desperation to deceive the people of the state and hoodwinked them into a failed attempt to install his stooge into office.

Orubo noted that the people of the state are no longer deceived by the desperate issuance of appointment letters by Governor Dickson,’ I commend those that rejected the appointments and for those who accept such appointment, I ask them to remember what happened in 2015. Gov. Dickson, after deceiving them with appointment, sack or cut down their salaries after the 2016 governorship poll. But this time, the PDP will loose.’

He also noted that what Bayelsa needs today,” is a deliberate social analysis to identify and determine those handful of people who would stop at nothing but continue to segregate and steal the rest of the state blind while they classify themselves as elites in the state.

“Let me call on the present administration to soberly reflect with a commitment as to what and how the situation in the state can be reversed rather than rejoice and flamboyantly show off shamelessly stolen wealth.

“I urge the good people of Bayelsa state to ask questions about how the state has been run for about eight years rather than fold their hands to suffer the cumulative effect of the atrocities of the present administration.

“I challenge all leaders of thought and the founding father of bayelsa state to arise and gather their people and make them know those who have thrown the state into the dark ages.

“I challenge our religious leaders and their congregations to stop to honour government leaders who bring money to their churches but rather preach sermons that appeal to their conscience and make them realize that they have failed the people”.

“Let Bayelsa people arise and challenge the conscience of the present administration to recognize that something is wrong with the way governance is being conducted in the state.

“We are quick to honour our leaders who loot us blind but we are complacent to challenge them about the way they have impoverished about ninety five percent of the Bayelsa people they govern.

“Today I challenge Bayelsa people to speak up rather than settle for instant gratification while the rest of the people are harvesting the consequences of leaders who are selfish and greedy.”
