Hon. Dennis Emomotimi Guwor, the member representing Warri South-West state constituency, has been elected as the speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.
The new Speaker was unanimously endorsed as the chairman of the 8th Delta Assembly on Tuesday.
Guwor, an ally of Chief Government Ekpemupolo, was the preferred candidate of the immediate past governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and his successor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
He is a second timer having been elected as a member representing Warri South-West in 2019
The House also elected Olorogun Arthur Akpowowo, member representing Ethiope East constituency, as Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
Both Guwor and Akpowowo were immediately sworn-in by the Acting Clerk who administered the relevant oaths.
Their election followed the proclamation of the 8th Assembly by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori via a letter addressed to the Acting Clerk, Otto Aghoghovwia of the House.
Guwor would be succeeding Oborevwori who is now governor of the state.
The other 27 members-elect are waiting to be inaugurated by the Speaker who has already delivered his acceptance remarks.
The ceremony held at the hollowed chambers of the House in Asaba.
