Gunmen Kill Retired Shell Worker, Abduct Wife, Two Children In Delta

A retired Shell worker (name withheld) has been reportedly shot dead after gunmen believed to be kidnappers reportedly attacked his vehicle in Delta State.

The gunmen also kidnapped the deceased’s wife and two children after shooting the septuagenarian.

NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday at about 6pm along Evwreni-Ughelli section of the East-West Road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The victims were said to be returning from Bayelsa State when the gunmen waylaid their vehicle heading to Warri.

They were six including the deceased’s driver on the vehicle. The driver is said to be still missing at the time of filing this report on Monday.

Sources told our correspondent that the hoodlums shot the deceased and asked one of the children in the vehicle to rush the victim to hospital while making away with the deceased’s wife and two children.

It was gathered that the retired oil worker died at a hospital in Ughelli where the victim was rushed for medical attention.

The deceased hailed from Kaiama in Bayelsa State.

Our sources stated that the deceased’s wife and two children are still being held by their abductors.

“The gunmen have not contacted the family over the kidnap of the deceased’s wife and his two children. The victim was a retired SPDC staff. He was an engineer.”, one of our sources said.

The source claimed that men of the state police command had been informed of the incident.

When contacted, Delta police spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident but could not give further details.
