Gunmen Invade Monarch’s Palace, Kidnap Akwa Ibom Traditional Ruler

Mbo monarch

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted the Paramount Ruler in Mbo Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom State, HRM Ogwong Okon A. Abang.

The monarch was said to have been abducted from his palace at Ebughu when the armed-wielding bandits invaded the palace.

The incident took place at about 9pm Saturday, thereby sparking fears and apprehension among residents of the Mbo council of the state.

There have been rising cases of abduction in recent times in the state, with Akwa Ibom doctors downing tools over the frequent kidnapping of their colleagues.

The strike by doctors in the state followed the kidnapping of their colleague, Dr. John Robbin Esu, who remained in the abductors’ den for nearly three weeks.

In a similar incident, the wife of a prominent politician in the state, Chief Asukwo Eweme Ulap Okon, aka Levile, was also kidnapped last week around Oron council in the state.

Akwa Ibom State Police Command was yet to react to the abduction of the monarch at the time of filing this report.

However, the state police commissioner, CP Waheed Ayilara, had deployed service commanders and a crack team of the Force to the palace of the monarch and neighbouring communities to rescue the royal father.
