Gunmen Abduct Delta NLC Chairman

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly abducted the Delta State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku.

NIGER DELTA TODAY Online learnt that the labour leader was waylaid and forcefully whisked away to unknown destination by the armed wielding gunmen.

The incident, sources told our correspondent, occurred on Saturday night along the Nigeria Immigration Road off the Ibusa/Asaba section of the Ughelli-Asaba Highway.

Family sources who confirmed the abduction of Ofobruku said the victim was returning home when the attack took place.

The sources claimed the abductors had yet to establish contact with neither the family of the victim nor officials of the Delta NLC.

However, the State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Ofobruku.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the incident on behalf of the command, said the Delta NLC chairman was abducted at about 8pm on Saturday.

Onovwakpoyeya said the Delta Police Command has launched a special tactical team to ensure that the victim is released.

“The incident happened yesterday (Saturday) evening around 8pm. We are already combing the bushes to ensure his safe release”, the Delta Police spokesperson added.
