Embattled Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
NIGER DELTA TODAY Online had reported that the governor was billed to officially announce his defection to PDP on Friday after meeting with aspirants and leaders of the party in the state on Thursday night.
Obaseki’s defection is coming on the heels of his disqualification to contest his re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party he was elected in his first term.
APC had based their disqualification of the governor on alleged discrepancies on his educational qualification and anti-party activities.
The governor announced his defection to the PDP during his visit to the State Secretariat of the party on Friday.
This confirmed our earlier report on Thursday that Obaseki was putting finishing touches to preparation for him to join the PDP, where he will seek his re-election as Edo governor.
Obaseki and the PDP have confirmed his defection in separate tweets on Twitter on Friday.
