Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has directed his lawyers to immediately appeal the judgment of the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal which nullified the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.
The tribunal sitting in Abuja in a majority judgment delivered by Justice Yunusa Musa on Monday voided the election on the bases that Advance National Democratic Party (ANDP) was unlawfully excluded from participating in the election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
It ordered that a fresh election be conducted in Bayelsa within 90 days of delivering the judgement.

But reacting to the judgement, Governor Diri said he has implicit confidence in the judiciary that he would triumph at the upper court.
In a statement signed by Diri’s Ag. Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabrah, said he would appeal the judgment.
The statement read, “We trust in the judiciary and we are appealing the judgement. With God on our side, we will get justice.
“This is a court of first instance and I have instructed our lawyers to file an appeal. We have a right of appeal even up to the Supreme Court.”
The governor, however, urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his supporters not to panic and to continue to remain calm and law-abiding.
