Ghana Returnee, Two Others Shot Dead As Hoodlums Set Houses Ablaze In Delta Communities

Suspected cultists have reportedly killed three yet-to-be identified persons at Oteri and Ekiugbo communities of Ughelli Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State in a renewed cult clash. 

The fracas also resulted in the burning of at least two houses at Oteri community. 

One of the deceased was a young man who recently returned Ghana. 

It was gathered that trouble started when the Ghana returnee reportedly beat his estranged girlfriend which led to a retaliation from the lady’s brother. 

The Ghana returnee was reported killed during the attack from the girlfriend’s brother who mobilised his friends alleged to be cultists to attack him. 

The two other victims were reportedly killed during a retaliatory attack from the family of the Ghana returnee. 

The incident happened on Sunday causing tension in the metropolis as residents continue to live in fears.

Our correspondent gathered further that the late Ghana returnee and his girlfriend’s brother were alleged to members of rival cult groups.

Several persons including a POS operator sustained injuries during the repeated attacks.

Sources claimed two of the victims were shot dead around Oghenevweta Street in Ekiugbo community. 

The chairman of Oteri community, Efe Odibo, confirmed the incident, saying the property amounting several millions of naria were destroyed in the community. 

Odibo posited that a dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed in the community to urgently arrest the situation from degenerating into further chaos. 

According to him, “We condemned the loss of loved ones and property. However, the Oteri community has decided to impose a one-week curfew starting from today Monday between the hours of 8 pm to 6 am. 

“The combined security agents, the army, police and local vigilantes will be on ground to enforce the curfew and if anyone is caught, such a person would be made to face the wrath of the law.” 

State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed alleged killing of one saying that the matter was not reported to the police.
