The member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rev. Francis Ejiroghene Waive, has installed solar powered streetlights at the premises of Urhobo House in Uvwiamuge, Agbarho, Delta State.
Urhobo House also known as UPU at Uvwiamuge in Agbarho is the worldwide headquarters of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) and its affiliate bodies for the people of Urhobo ethnic nationality in Niger Delta region.
The premises of Urhobo House and its surroundings have been in darkness for years until this patriotic step by Hon. Waive through a federal government agency.
Owing to the darkness around the area, criminal elements have been carrying out nefarious activities along the Agbarho/Ughelli axis of the East-West Road by attacking and kidnapping commuters.
Following the completion of the installation of the solar powered streetlights, the entire Urhobo House and Uvwiamuge Agbarho Junction leading into the community are now wearing a bright and beautiful look at night.
Speaking on the initiative, Hon. Waive said it was in fulfillment of his campaign promises to the people of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu Federal Constituency who re-elected him for a second term.
He added that he is driven by the passion to make significant contributions to whatever will strengthen Urhobo Nation as well as to ensure there is security around the Urhobo House at Uvwiamuge in Agbarho.
Waive, who however, promised to also install solar powered streetlights at the UPU Cultural Centre at Okere Road, Otovwodo in Agbarha Warri.
He remarked that it will be a thing of shame for him to allow two pillars of Urhobo institution, culture and unity are kept in darkness, adding that the installation of the first batch is the beginning of more things to come for people of his constituency.
“I gladly report that I have provided Solar Street Lights around the headquarters premises of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Uvwiamuge Agbarho. This not only improves visibility but increases security within the premises at night”, Waive stated.
Meanwhile, excited residents and indigenes of Uvwiamuge as well as commuters plying the ever-busy Effurun/Ughelli Expressway have commended the lawmaker for lighting up the all-important symbol of Urhobo Nation.
They noted that prior to the installation of the solar lights, motorists and commuters were scared to make a stop at the Uvwiamuge/Urhobo House Junction to drop or pick passengers.
They, however, called on Urhobo leaders to urgently develop the area and complete the building, noting that Urhobo House remains the strongest institution of the Urhobo people worldwide.
