First Nigerian Female Vice-Chancellor, Grace Alele-Williams, Passes On

Professor Grace Alele-Willaims, Nigeria’s first female university vice chancellor, is reportedly dead.

The Itsekiri-born academician was learnt to have passed on Friday after a brief illness in Lagos.

Born 16 December,1932, Prof Alele-Williams, who hails from Warri in Delta State, died at 89.

She was a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Edo State and first Nigerian woman to receive a doctorate.

Late Alele-Willaims was a professor of mathematics and also held the traditional title of Utienyin Iwere of Warri.

She was conferred the revered traditional title by the 20th Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli.
