The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs on Friday carried out a health enlightenment campaign at the General Hospital, Kiagbodo,  Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, distributing  drugs to people living with HIV/AIDS.

The ministry also distributed  eyeglasses to people with impaired vision.

About 800 people  benefitted from the programme, after 2,000 people benefitted from a similar Federal Government programme   in Cross River State last week.

The Deputy Director, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Stephen Kilebi, said in a statement people of the region suffering from  malaria and cancer were also treated.

The statement said  the Permanent Secretary of  the ministry, Aminu Bisalla, who was represented at the event by the Director of Reforms, Haman Ndahi, was part of the FG’s effort to provide basic health care services to the people of the region.

The statement said  when the programme was held in Cross River, free eye surgeries  and other forms of medical treatments were offered to  2,000 people, mostly children and the elderly.
