At least ten persons including a former Councillor in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday sustained injuries when armed youths invaded the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) congress for Erowha/Umeh Ward 08.
The injured ex-councillor, Hon. Saturday Eneriakpoze, and other were said to have been hospitalized following injuries inflicted on them by the rampaging youths.
The youths said to be acting on the instruction of a prominent PDP leader Isoko South LGA decided to scuttle the exercise when the candidate favoured by the PDP was turned down by leaders and members of the party in the ward.
Sources at the venue told our correspondent that the thugs were armed with guns, machetes, and other objects.
Following the attack, members of the party including women fled for safety.

“On discovering that leaders and members of Umeh PDP ward 08 were against the anointed candidate of the PDP leader who is currently holding a strategic position in the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led government instructed thugs to disrupt the exercise.
“The attack immediately brought the congress to a halt. The congress was also no later concluded because the youths vow to kill anyone seen around the venue”, one of the sources told NIGER DELTA TODAY Online.
They appealed to Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and the chairman of PDP in the state not to accept any list emanating from the botched congress in Umeh ward 08 in Isoko.
Eneriakpoze, when contacted, confirmed his attack by suspected political thugs acting on the order of a political leader in Isoko.
