Ethiope West Constituency 1: Senator Omo-Agege Has Liberated Us – Delta Monarch

The Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom in Delta State, HRM, King Monday Whiskey, Udurhie I, has described the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, as a true advocate and emancipator of the oppressed people of the Ethiope West LGA of the state. 

Udurhie 1 particularly thanked Senator Omo-Agege over the restoration of Ethiope West State Constituency 1 following a motion moved by the Delta Central lawmaker in the floor of the Nigerian Senate. 

The Senate had about two weeks ago ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore the suppressed Ethiope West State Constituency 1 in the Delta State House Assembly after Omo-Agege drew attention of the Senate to the injustice. 

In an appreciation letter addressed to Senator Omo-Agege and personally signed by the Idjerhe monarch, the royal father commended the lawmaker and noted that the action of the Deputy President of the Senate has clearly shown that he truly knows the pains of his people. 

The Urhobo traditional ruler stated that the suppression of constituency which covers over 40 towns and villages in his kingdom was a great injustice despite a court judgment ordering the restoration of the seat by INEC.

“I am writing at the behest of the good and peace-loving people of Idjerhe Kingdom, the royal throne and the entire people therein. May I sincerely appreciate you for the hardwork and resilience you exerted which brought about the approval of Ethiope West State Constituency 1. 

“Sequel to the adoption of a motion moved by your humble self, the Senate on the 10th of February, 2021, finally approved the restoration of Ethiope West State Constituency 1 in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State. 

 “It has not lost on me, how Honorable Justice M. Shitu Abubakar of the Federal High Court, Warri ruled on March 25, 2015 that Ethiope West State Constituency 1 be restored as a state constituency with an elected member in the State House of Assembly.  

“Six years down the line, the electoral umpire, INEC blatantly refused to respect the court order (making that light to go off). Hence, your legislative sagacity and your strong commitment as a true advocate and instrument for accomplishment of this great feet is highly appreciated by my humble self and the good people of Idjerhe Kingdom.

“Let me place it on record that you have contributed immensely for the emancipation and the political freedom for the suppressed and oppressed people of my kingdom and this singular action has calmed the already frail nerves and doused the political tension that emanated from the age long oppression.

“My distinguished Senator, we the good people of Idjerhe Kingdom do not just see you as a perfect representative of the Urhobo Nation at the upper legislative chambers, but we are convinced that God placed you where you are today to help oil the development and political upliftment of Urhobo Nation in general and Idjerhe Kingdom in particular”, the Delta monarch stated. 

 
The monarch also called on Senator Omo-Agege and President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to establish federal projects in the kingdom, adding “Idjerhe Kingdom as you well known is endowed with verse land waiting to be harnessed and like Oliver Twist, we will always ask for more. Idjerhe Kingdom is open to modern investment as our verse water front lands are ready for would be investors and Federal Government projects.”
