A former three-term member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Daniel Reyenieju, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s state of emergency and subsequent removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the Rivers House of Assembly.
Reyenieju, a former lawmaker representing Warri Federal Constituency, noted that the move by President Tinubu did not only saved Fubara and his deputy from impeachment but “necessary and commendable” for the people of Rivers state.
The former federal lawmaker, however, condemned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s remark, which criticised President Tinubu’s decision, calling them misguided and politically motivated.
Reyenieju praised Tinubu for his bold leadership, stating that the President’s action was vital in restoring order and stability to Rivers State, which has been facing escalating political unrest and threats of impeachment against Governor Fubara.
“Abubakar’s refusal to acknowledge the courageous and necessary decision made to restore order and stability reveals his intention to play petty political games at the expense of the state’s well-being,” Reyenieju asserted.
Reyenieju emphasised that “By prioritizing the security and integrity of the state, the President has demonstrated his commitment to protecting democracy and preventing political interests from undermining the welfare of the people.”
Reyenieju further rejected any notion that the federal government’s intervention was politically motivated, adding, “Nigeria should be grateful to President Tinubu for his decisive leadership in averting further chaos. Instead of allowing the situation to spiral out of control due to political maneuvering, the President acted in the best interest of the state.”
Reyenieju called on all Nigerians to support actions that prioritise peace and stability over divisive politics.
“We must focus on constructive solutions that uphold the rule of law and protect the interests of all Nigerians, rejecting any attempts to exploit our challenges for political gain,” he further added.
