The re-elected governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has attributed his victory at Saturday’s governorship election in the state to the divine intervention of God, saying his victory at the poll belongs to the Edo people.
He specifically stated that his victory was a triumph over godfatherism
He stated this on Sunday after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner of the governorship election held in the state on Saturday.
Obaseki spoke at the Government House Benin-City while celebrating his victory with PDP supporters.
He reiterated his commitment and that of his Deputy, Philip Shuaibu, to making the state great.

The governor particularly commended President Muhammadu Buhari, INEC and the security agencies in the state for not interfering with the process that returned him re-elected governor of the state.
Obaseki commended the governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for not only giving him the platform to run but also working hard to ensure that the party wins the election.
He stated that his victory is a triumph over godfatherism in the state.
“Words fail me in salutinthe teaming supporters who displayed courage in the face of fierce intimidation and brutalisation. The collective will of Edo people made it possible for us to triumph over godfatherism.
“I’m eternally grateful to my party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and my brother-governors, not only for giving us the umbrella during our political storm, but for the hard works which has brought me back as governor.
“Our success has reinforced my belief that there is nothing we cannot achieve as a people of we put forces together and collectively call on God for support”, Obaseki stated.
