Edo National Sports Festival Begins Dec. 3, 2020

The 20th Edition of National Sports Festival billed to be hosted in Edo State has now been slated to commence December 3rd to 18th, 2020. 

National Council on Sports made the disclosure at its 22nd meeting held on Friday in Asaba, Delta State. 

In a communique signed by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, all participants at the events are to conform with the Covid 19 Protocol by testing three days before the commencement of the Competition and testing at two days interval during the Competition in line with international Covid 19 Protocol. 

The communique further explained that the events would be held in phases dates, and arrival by State contingents for the compliance with all protocol guide lines put in place by the Presidential Taskforce on Covid 19. 

While applauding the hosting State government for its commitment to the success and organisation of the event so far, the National Council on Sports noted ” that Federal government had reclassified Sports from a recreational activity to business concern.”

The council of Sports also adopted the draft country sports industry Policy (2020) as amended with 10 policy thrust Areas, by recognizing the industrialization Agenda of Sports industry value chain via what it called “31s & P concept with defined roles for the Public, Private and Social Enterprise sectors”. 

The council announced the rebirth of the National Headmaster Cup as well as the National Principal Cup, saying the National Headmaster Cup would be a yearly event for all pupils at the primary school in both Public and Private while students at secondary school level from the 36 States, including Abuja, are to participate in the National Principal Cup. 

The Council, as it were, urged the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to interface with it counterpart at Federal ministry of education cum the National Council on Establishment “as regards the status of the certificates awarded by the National Institute of Sports (NIS); just as the body directed the NIS to interface with the relevant agencies to regularise and upgrade their courses.
