The cold war between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Saturday deepened as political thugs suspected to be loyal to the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) attacked Obaseki and other dignitaries at Iyamho in Etsako West local government area of the state.
Iyamho is the country-home of Oshiomhole.
Also attacked by the hoodlums were the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu; Chancellor of the Edo University, Iyahmo, Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola and other government officials.
The governor and other dignitaries were attending the first convocation ceremony of Edo University, Iyamho when they were attacked.

The university was established by the former Edo governor.
The dignitaries including the governor where at the palatial home of the APC chairman after the convocation when the thugs unleashed mayhem on guests, destroying two cars in the process.
It was learnt that Obaseki, Oba of Lagos and other guests visited Oshiomhole to honour the APC national chairman’s invitation to be hosted in his home when the irate youths swoop on them.
However, swift intervention of the security operatives at the scene, save the situation from turning into a bloodbath.
“The former Governor’s house is just opposite the University. Governor Obaseki, the Oba of Lagos and other guests had gone to Oshiomhole’s house for lunch when they were attacked by thugs.
“It took the intervention of the Governor’s security to prevent a blood bath as several vehicles were smashed by the thugs”, a source who witnessed the fracas told NIGER DELTA TODAY.

Meanwhile, Governor Obaseki, while confirming the attack, condemned the incident.
According to him, “it is really unfortunate that we can’t feel safe at the house of our national chairman. I am not sure that if I went to the house of the national chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, they will attack me the way they did in the house of our chairman.
“It is really unfortunate that things have degenerated to this extent. I have forgiven those that attacked me, but in spite of what happened we will continue to pursue peace and we cannot afford to lose the gains of the last three years.”
