Governor Godwin Obaseki

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is working for the postponement of the September 19 governorship election in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki, has alleged

Obaseki, who is the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming election, alleged that APC was creating tension in the state to push the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to shift the exercise.

He spoke on Sunday during an interactive meeting with journalists in the state, saying that he was very confidence about winning his re-election.

The governor further alleged that the opposition party in the state does this by putting fear in the minds of the electorate, to prevent them from exercising their franchise.

He further accused them of perpetrating “violence and create the impression that Edo state is not safe, such that the federal government could declare a state-of-emergency and postpone the election.”

According to him, “When they [opposition party] come out, they behave so lawlessly as if there is no law.

“The opposition party today understands how difficult it is for them to win election. Rather than trying to persuade people, they engage in all kinds of vicious propaganda.

“They want to cause violence and anarchy so that the election will be postponed.

“We appeal to opposition party to allow peace reign in the land.

“We are in government. If they want to come in, they should do what the people want,” he said.

The governor however said that he “will continue to appeal to the federal government,” adding “we do not have the police and army.”

When contacted for reaction, the deputy chairman of APC national campaign council, Patrick Obahiagbon, said he was at campaign rally and so cannot react.
