Disturbed by rising cases of cult related clashes, students of Udu extraction across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions have held anti-cultism and drug abuse campaign in the various communities that made up Udu Kingdom in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The students under the aegis of National Association of Udu students (NAUS) worldwide warned youths in the kingdom on the danger associated with cultism, drug abuse and social vices, saying many lives have been lost to such vices.
The group especially frowned at the rising and disturbing cases of cult clashes within Udu communities, urging those involved to desist before they will lose their lives to such criminal activities.
The enlightenment campaign was held on Thursday October 1 to commemorate Nigeria’s 60 years Independence Anniversary.
President of the group, Comrade Anthony Nana, who spoke on the reasons for the campaign, said the aim of the movement was to sensitize the youths, and the general public to shun cultism, drugs abuse and other social vices in Udu kingdom.
Nana-led NAUS team was received by the President-General of Ighele Udu Kingdom, Comr. Emmanuel Sefia who sincerely appreciated Udu students for coming up with such a innovative and brilliant idea that will help in building a better Udu kingdom for all.
While addressing the body, he promised that Ighele of Udu executives will continue to support the association at any point as much as it will be of benefit to all.
The President of National Association of Delta State Students, Comr. Godwin Oyovweadjebre Saturday, who is the NADESSTU President Worldwide and also a member of NAUS was fully on ground to support the association in sensitizing Udu people.
The awareness campaign which started from Aladja community was received by leadership of the community represented by the Secretary-General of Aladja Community.
The students were also at Ovwian, Ujevwu, Ubogo, Ogbe-Udu, Okolor In-land, Oghior and Otor-Udu, which doubled as both the traditional and administrative headquarters of Udu Local Government Council.
