Delta Polls: Boat carrying INEC staff, security personnel capsize, many missing

A boat carrying INEC ad hoc staff, security personnel and electoral materials for the Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections has reportedly capsized.


The boat said to be carrying about 20 people capsized around Ebrohimi community creek in Warri North Local Government Area of the state.


No fewer than 12 persons are said to be missing at the time of filing this report on Sunday morning.


Sources told WARRI TODAY that the boat had on board INEC officials, corps members who are INEC ad hoc staff and security operatives including police officers.

A security source told this medium that the incident happened when the victims were returning to Koko, the headquarters of Warri North after the end of the exercise on Saturday.

The incident was said to have occurred late Saturday evening.

Our source was, however, silent on the dead number, saying that a rescue operation has started since the time of the incident.

However, the state Commissioner of Police, Adeyinka Adeleke said the command was investigating if the boat mishap is true.
