One person has reportedly died from the Monday’s clash between some supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Abraka in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
WARRI TODAY learnt that the deceased, a member of the APC died on Tuesday morning at an undisclosed hospital in the university community.
This medium has not been able to obtain the identity of the victim at the time of filing this report.
Sources in the town told our correspondent that the deceased died as a result of injury he sustained in Monday’s clash between supporters of the two major political parties in the state.
Chief Great Ogboru, the governorship candidate of the APC in the forthcoming elections, hails from Abraka.
The member representing Ethiope Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Chief Evance Ivwurie, also hails from the community. Ivwurie is the candidate of the PDP for the assembly seat.
It was gathered that the deceased was one of the political thugs reportedly shot in the Monday’s fracas where several persons allegedly sustained injuries around the Ekerejeta area of the Delsu community.
More than 15 persons were seriously injured and rushed to hospitals including the Eku General Hospital for medicare.
It was not clear which party the deceased was supporting.
Fight was said to have broke out when some suspected APC thugs attempted to burn down the homes of some PDP chieftains including that of Dr. Blessing Enamutor in the community but his supporters resisted.
Our source who pleaded for anonymity said, “One of the political thugs who were critically injured in Monday’s clash died this morning (Tuesday) in the fight between APC and PDP supporters. Others are still at various hospitals receiving treatment.”
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, Andrew Aniamaka, were unsuccessful as he repeated busied our correspondent’s calls and text sent to his telephone line has not been responded to at the time of filing this report.
A police source who, however, pleaded for anonymity confirmed the demise of the deceased when contacted on Tuesday. The source said the deceased was suspected to be member of the APC.
In a related development, Dr Enamuotor has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, urging the police authorities to investigate the alleged attack on his home in Abraka by thugs suspected to be members of the APC.
Enamuotor described the attack on his house by arms wielding gun youths as an attempt to assassinate him and members of his family.
He particularly called on the police to arrest one Mr Efe Kigho, Dafe Kigho,Umokoro Earlyson, Henry Mamuyovwi, Maebeyi Julius, Obada,Papay Evance Ofuegbe and others now at large as the brain behind the attack.
