Residents of Sagbama town in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have been thrown into mourning after a 34-year-old man reportedly killed his roommate and sold the deceased’s vital organs to a pastor in the state for ritual purpose.

The suspect, Okpegboro Avwerosuo, who hails from Ughelli North of Delta State, however, ran out of luck when police operatives nabbed him for the crime.

Community sources said the suspect reportedly murdered the victim in their one room apartment last weekend.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, recounted that the suspect had invited the deceased, who was his friend, to come to Sagbama to join the commercial motorcycle riding business popularly known as ‘Okada’.

He said the suspect assured the deceased that the business is flourishing in the town because the campus of the Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro College of Education (IJBCOE) was sited in there.

It was further learnt that the deceased hadn’t stayed for more than two weeks when Okpegboro struck him with a mortar pestle in the middle of the night, crushing his skull and killing him in the process.

The neighbor further explained that “after killing him, he dismembered the body, preserved the vital organs and put the other parts in separate sacks which he disposed in the early hours of the following day. While he was disposing the sacks, another neighbor who saw him and suspected his movements confronted him later in the afternoon about the whereabout of his roommate.

“The suspect claimed that the deceased has travelled back to Delta State for an urgent business. Not satisfied with his response, the neighbor forced his way into the room and saw blood stains everywhere. The neighbor held him down and alerted the local vigilante which eventually called the police in to arrest the suspect.

“Upon interrogation before he was handed over to the police, the suspect confessed that he had sold the vital organs of his friend to a pastor in Port Harcourt who is currently at large for ritual purposes.”
