A pregnant woman has been crushed to death by a Delta Line bus driver at the Coker junction along the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The pregnant woman was killed by the bus driver on Saturday when she was already at the median awaiting opportunity to cross to Ibuza side of the road.
But the commercial bus owned by Delta State Government with the registration number DT273B2B was coming from the Onitsha side ran into the deceased when it had a brake failure.
However, luck smiles on a man who was with the deceased on the spot when the accident occurred as he said to have jumped to the other of the road.
According to eyewitness, the driver took to his heels when he discovered that the pregnant woman died on the spot, for fear of been killed by the mob who rushed to the scene of the accident.
A petty trader at the scene of the accident claimed the Delta Line bus driver was on high speed when the incident happened.
“Aside the brake failure, the driver was also on speed, so it was difficult for to avert the situation”, the trader added.
When our correspondent visited the scene, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC), were seen evacuating the bus from the road.
Except for the woman, other occupants of the bus survived the accident.
