Ahead of June’s Local Government (LG) elections in Delta state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sacked and replaced Kelvin Ideh, the Jeremi Ward II aspirant said to have imposed as candidate for the polls in Ughelli South LG by the party leaders in the Ward.
The choice of Kelvin had provoked protests among aggrieved aspirant, Ferere Umudi and other party faithful in Jeremi who accused Kelvin’s uncle and Ward, Dr Adogbeji Ideh and Delta Assembly Lawmaker representing Ughelli South, Festus Utuama, of imposing a person the described as a stranger to PDP Jeremi II.
Though Dr Ideh had denied the allegation, consequential media exposure had brought the perceived impunity to attention of the state leadership of the PDP and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori who had prior to the party primaries warned against abuse of power by party while insisting on participatory selection of popular candidates to represent the party.
Consequently, the party transferred the ticket after appraisal of the protest and grievances to Umudi, the aspirant who had led the party faithful in the Ward in the protest challenging the alleged imposition by Dr Ideh and Hon Utuama.
The development is said to have been greeted by jubilation across the Ward by party members who said it marks a shift towards ending the greed and impunity among party leaders in the locality.
