Residents and landlords of Freshville Estate at Okuokoko in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State are now moving out of the area for safety following frequent attacks on the estate by gunmen.

One of the landlords (name withheld) in the area who was kidnapped during Thursday’s attack on the estate has finally regained freedom from his kidnappers.

The victim who works with an International Oil Company (IOC) was released on Thursday night.

He was said to have paid his abductors ransom before regaining his freedom.

It was gathered that the hoodlums killed two of the victim’s dogs while breaking into his compound during the attack.

It was, however, learnt on Friday that residents of the estate were vacating their homes in large numbers.

One of the residents who confirmed the development said the move was to ensure their safety and those of their families.

NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online had reported that gunmen in the early hours of Thursday attacked the estate and, in the process, kidnapped the landlord who is an oil worker.

The armed robbers were said to have operated for over four hours shooting sporadically while moving from house-to-house to rob residents of their belongings.

The spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, had said he was not briefed of the incident.
