Delta Govt Urged To Set Up Herders, Farmers Committees

The Sariki of Hause Community, Asaba, Delta State, Alhaji Ibrahim Babagero has called for the setting up of committees in the 25 local government councils of the State to interface with the farmers and Fulani herdsman, to stem the tide of violence between them.

Alhaji Babagero, stated this while speaking with journalists on Friday in Asaba, the Stste Capital.

He said that such committees most be chaired by the Council chairman, and made up of other credible persons from both sides whose image cannot be called to question to achieve the desired peace in the land.

Alhaji Ibrahim Babagero maintained that the assignment of such committees will among others, go to the rural areas where farming is predominant and avert crises between farmers and the Fulani herdsmen.

He stated that they are also to liaise with the traditional rulers in such communities, the security agencies, farmers and herdsmen to enthrone peace, love and orderliness.

Alhaji Ibrahim Babagero advised that if such committees are set up any Fulani herdsman whose cattle destroy crops should be made to pay for such crops and also farmers do same but should henceforth refrain from killing cows belonging to Fulani pastoralists.

He said if the committee is inaugurated, the two parties are bound to embrace the needed peace.

He described Deltans as “a very nice, accommodating and friendly people saying, there is no regret living in the State.
