Delta Govt Committed To Training Of Staff – Osahon, PS Ministry Of Information

As Beneficiaries Of DBS Warri Computer Training Programme Graduate

The Delta State Government has reemphasized its commitment to the training and retraining of staff of the state civil service, saying such will improve staff’s optimum performance and service delivery to the people of the state.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mr Paul Osahon, stated this during the graduation ceremony of the first batch of computer trainees of the Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri, at Rolof Computer Academy in Warri.

The training which is in partnership with the managements of Rolof Computer Academy is aimed at training staff of DBS Warri, operator of Delta Rainbow Television and Radio Delta, in the area of digital broadcasting.

Osahon said the training was in line with the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration of building a stronger Delta and improving the state workforce through training and retraining of staff for better performance.

He stated that with the training of the first batch, comprising ten staff on various digital broadcasting through the use of computer, the people of the state should expect better and efficient delivery in the broadcast activities of Rainbow Television and Radio Delta FM.

The permanent secretary noted, “We thank God for this day that we are witnessing here. It is a huge thing that has happened to us in the ministry of information because the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration has been harping on training and retraining of staff.

“When you train the staff the knowledge of using equipment is going to be very proficient.  I have no doubt that this training will improve the knowledge of staff and they will bring the knowledge in to improve on their work and workers of DBS Warri will be the best for it to meet all the objectives government has sets for us.

“This training is in line with the Stronger Delta mantra of our Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, who believed strongly on the welfare and retraining of the staff of the state civil service. This is a good initiative and it should be applauded.”

While commending the management of DBS Warri led by its Acting General Manager, Mr Malcolm Oteri for the initiative added that the ministry of information will seek ways of partnering with Rolof Academy to ensure that more staff of the ministry undergo such training.

“I want to commend the General Manager of DBS for this initiative. He is a man that has taken after the governor (Ifeanyi Okowa) who believed strongly that no matter the level of your degrees, you also need skills, and ICT skill is important in the delivery of our job as broadcasters.

We shall explore steps to partner Rolof Computer Academy in the training of our staff both in the ministry. I urge the beneficiaries to utilize the knowledge gained during the training for the development of the station”, Osahon added.

In his remark, the Acting General Manager, Mr Oteri, said the ceremony was to mark the graduation ceremony of the first batch of the staff of the station, saying that the second batch had already commenced training.

Oteri , while commending the state governor, Dr. Okowa,  State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Mr Osahon, noted that the partnership with Rolof Computer Academy which birthed the first set of graduating trainees  would not have been possible without their support.

He said the management of DBS Warri would continue to work together to strengthen the station for the betterment of the people of Delta State.

In her brief remark, the Rector of Rolof Academy, Mrs Josephine Ofuafor, commended the state government for the initiative, and appealed to the graduands to use their skill for the betterment of the station and humanity.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the presentation of certificates to the graduands by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Osahon, and tour of facilities at the Rolof Computer Academy.
