Three corpses have been found of the four missing persons after a boat carrying 23 passengers including the driver capsized around Ebrohimi along the Benin River in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.
It was gathered that the corpses were found by divers who had been searching for the missing persons since the incident occurred on Saturday night while returning from election duties in the riverine communities.
WARRI TODAY learnt that the corpses of the three persons whose identities could be immediately ascertained had been deposited at an undisclosed morgue while the search for the remaining person continues.
It was further gathered that two persons were still receiving treatment at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, where they were rushed by the rescue team.
Our sources disclosed that although the two victims were in stable condition but one of them had broken leg during the accident.
One of sources disclosed, however, that the missing policeman was one of the corpses recovered from the river by divers.
One of the accident survivors, Mr. Charles Oma told WARRI TODAY on Monday in Warri that the incident occurred when their boat collided with a fishing boat around 8:30pm on Saturday.
Oma also said there were no INEC officials in the collapsed boat.
He also dismissed reports that the boat might have capsized owing to overload, saying that the capsized boat carries 22 passengers and a driver.
Both the speedboat and the fishing boat had no light at the time of the incident, he added.
