A newly inaugurated All Progressives Congress (APC) support base, Team Upaka for Omo-Agege 5/5 in Delta state have assured of block votes from its teeming members to back anticipated victory of the APC in the general elections in Delta.
The group with members mostly drawn from Ughelli South, Ughelli North and Udu Local Government Areas of Delta Central Senatorial District has continued to soar in numbers in response to the move by their leader, Chief David Upaka, who formally decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the APC.
At the formal inauguration of the group today Sunday 5th January, 2023 at the DSC Township, Udu LGA, Chief Upaka narrated that the rapid rise in the membership of the group was informed by the leader, follower bond they have had in various political spheres and associations over the years.
Upaka said, “I made up my mind to leave the PDP and move to the APC in consultation and agreement with them based of commonality of appraisal of the situation in Delta. We came to the conclusion that Sen Ovie Omo-Agege is the answer to Delta of our dream. And as soon as I decamped they all followed.
“We have written our resignation letters, torn our PDP cards and formally registered in APC. Having registered in APC, we decided to harness this formidable group into a force called Team Upaka for Omo-Agege and APC 5 over 5.
“The gathering here today is to witness the formal inauguration of this support group drawing members from Ughelli South, Ughelli North and Udu LGAs. We have decided to be full members of APC.
“And our principal, Sen Ovie Omo-Agege and other party leaders at the national level are very much aware of what we are doing here today. With the inauguration of Team Upaka for Omo-Agege for APC 5 over 5, there is no more looking back in contributing our quota to APC victory in the coming elections.
Mr.Brotugba Akpevwe, a member of the group said, “We didn’t have to think twice to move with out leader, Chief Upaka on this mission in support of Omo-Agege. We know the antecedents of the Deputy Senate President.
“We know the much he has achieved for his people in the senate. And we are sure he will do more as governor. So we are fully in support and we have no doubt he will emerge as the next governor of Delta state to liberate the people from painful past years of stagnation.”
Mrs Winfred Idogho, a woman leader in the group said, “We, Team Upaka for Oma-Agege and APC, have agreed to mobilise all support in favour of Omo-Agege. We have already commenced door to door, house to house campaigns. The people are embracing Omo-Agege, APC. No doubt, with our votes, joining the growing support base from across the state, victory is sure for Omo-Agege and the APC in this year 2023 elections.”
