Court Dismisses Suit Seeking To Sack Omo-Agege As DSP Over Alleged US Conviction

An Abuja High Court on Wednesday dismissed a suit filed by a civil society ourganisation urging the court to sack the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege over allegation that he was convicted in the United States of America.

The court presided over by Justice Othman Musa cleared the embattled Deputy President of the Senate of the allegation against him.

The court awarded d cost of N1m against the claimant for filing a frivolous suit aimed at denting the image of the Deputy Senate President.

The court held that the case Sen Ovie Omo-Agege in the US was merely a non-criminal trial by a Judicial Commission of Inquiry which does not amount to a conviction.

Justice Musa stated that the case against Senator Omo-Agege in the state of California was a disciplinary matter which he challenged in the superior Court of California and won so he is not under obligation to disclose such information to INEC before contesting an election.
