Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, has contracted the coronavirus, the state government has confirmed.
Mohammed tested positive after clinical test carried out on him and his aides by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)
In a statement on Tuesday signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mukhtar Gidado, said the governor’s aides, however did not test positive.
According to him, ”Of the six initial tests carried out, one sample was confirmed positive of COVID-19. The positive result happened to be that of his Excellency Sen.Bala Mohammed.
”At this point, it should be noted that the governor is in self-isolation as his doctors and officials from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control have taken full charge of his quarantine.”
Gidado further said the Governor has advised anyone who earlier came in contact with him to go for immediate test to avoid further spread of the covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed two new case of the virus bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 44.
NCDC said the new two cases were confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Bauchi state.
It said the cases have travel history to Germany and the UK.
So far, here are 44 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. Two have been discharged with one death
