Commercial activities on Friday returned to the popular Osubi Airport near Warri in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State following the landing of commercial flight to the airport.
This is coming 17 months after it was shut down in February 2020.
The airport which provides services to oil companies and other individuals was shut following controversy involving aviation service providers and management of the airport.
It was gathered that there were counter allegations of debt and mismanagement against the service providers and management.

The reopening of the airport followed the intervention of the House of Representatives and the Delta State Government.
The green chamber after a motion by the member representing Okpe, Sapele and Uvwie, Chief Efe Afe, directed the federal government through the ministry of aviation and relevant authorities to reopen the airport for full flight operations.
Following the House of Representatives directive, Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, announced in March, that flight operations would soon resume to the airport.
In spite of the Minister’s announcement, flight operations remained shut to the airport for four months.
But flights operations finally resumed on Friday following the landing of Airpeace flight at about 8:20am.
The first flight which had a total of 45 passengers on board was piloted by Captain Matthew Ekeinde from Lagos.

The flight was received by the Orodje of Okpe and the Ovie of Uvwie amidst excitement from the people of Okpe and Uvwie Local Government Areas of the state.
The speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Sheriff Oborevwori and other government functionaries from the area were also on hand to witness the ceremony under tight security.
