Supreme Court Dismisses Certificate Forgery Case Against Gov Obaseki

By Emeka Okafor

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the appeal on the certificate forgery case brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its chieftain, Mr. Williams Edobor, against Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State.

The apex court said the appellant (Edo APC) failed to prove that the university certificate which Governor Obaseki used for the 202 Edo governorship election was forged.

The judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim for the five-man panel jurists ruled that the apex court had no reason to overturn the judgement of the appellate court since the appellants woefully failed to prove their case.

The court awarded one million naira in favour of the Edo governor against the appellant.

Recall that the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which earlier dismissed the allegation that Obaseki tendered false credentials to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in aid of his qualification for the governorship election that held in Edo state on September 19, 2020.
