Senator Nwaoboshi Dumps PDP For APC, Meet President Buhari In Aso Villa

The senator representing Delta Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwaoboshi announced his defection when he met with President Muhammadu Buhari at Aso Villa on Friday.

The lawmaker was accompanied on the visit by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who also hails from Delta State.

The Delta North senator’s defection is coming two days after the state PDP suspended from the party for one month.

Nwaoboshi has also be embroiled in verbal attacks with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, whom he succeeded at the Senate in 2015.

He had recently rated Okowa’s government as poorly performing compare to his predecessors – former Governor James Ibori and Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Okowa had also replied the lawmaker whom he described as “stranger” saying that he cannot pitch him against his predecessors.

Receiving Nwaoboshi alongside members of the Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee and governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, at the First Lady’s Conference Room, presidential villa, Abuja, congratulated the lawmaker for joining APC.

Welcoming Nwaoboshi, Buhari said, “you are welcome to the progressives’ family”, a statement by the President’s spokesman, Garba Shehu said.

Before he was received by President Buhari, Senator Omo-Agege had earlier presented him to the National Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) at the State House.

The Deputy Senate President in his remark said the defection of Nwaoboshi, who is also the Senate Committee Chairman on NDDC, to APC shows that the CECPC efforts at revamping the party was working.
