Tension on Monday gripped travellers plying the Kaduna-Abuja train line when terrorists reportedly bombed the rail track in Kaduna State.
It was gathered that the incident led the train conveying 970 passengers to derailed forcing scores of persons to be injured.
Sources claimed that the gunmen were believed to have planted some explosives around Katari area of the State.
Reports have it that the train which took off at about 6pm from the Idu Train Station of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) hit the explosive device forcing the train to derail from the track.
There are unconfirmed reports that several persons on board were kidnapped by gunmen believed to have planted the explosives.
“There is no network in the area so we cannot get any information until the team we have dispatched returns,” said a top security source in Kaduna.
“What we know is that suspected IED’s were planted on the track and the train has derailed. We don’t know for sure if there is any injury or death,” he said.
Managing Director/CEO of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Mr. Fidet Okhiria, confirmed the attack to Daiy Trust.
Okhiria, however, did not give further details about the incident.
