Gov Okowa Eases Curfew In Delta From 8am To 6pm Daily

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has announced easing of the curfew imposed in the state following the violence that rocked the #EndSARS protest.

Okowa made the declaration on Saturday while inspecting the Event Centre Asaba, the state capital, where palliatives donated by Coalition Against COVID (CA-COVID) to the state government were earlier kept for distribution.

The governor said residents of the state are allowed to go out between 8am and 6pm from Saturday.

He explained that the curfew will now only be observed between the hours of 6pm to 8am daily.

CA-COVID-19 palliatives is a private sector initiative supporting the fight to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the country.

The governor said the state had already distributed the palliatives to indigent Deltans long before the #EndSARS protest across the state.

The governor also warned youths in the state to desist from destroying private and public property in the name of the protest.

He directed security agencies in the state to deal with anyone trying to attack public and private property across the state as criminal.

“I want to appeal to all our youths that they should stay vigilant and give peace a chance so that together we shall continue to build.

“If there are further grievances of the youths, I intend in the next few days meet with some of the leadership and to give space for a townhall meetings which I will host one in Asaba and one in Warri. We will talk with ourselves. I have been part of the state. I have been part of you. We cannot as Deltans allow miscreants and criminal destroy the things that we laboured to build.

“You are aware that we called for a 48-hour curfew which started at 6pm on Thursday and it will end by 6pm today. Because of the things that are still going on, we have decided to ease the curfew but the curfew will still remain from 6pm beginning from today (Saturday) to 8am every day till further notice.

“People are not expected to leave their homes after 6pm until 8am the following morning. As from 8am on Sunday, people can now go about their lawful duties to 6pm”, Governor Okowa stated.
