Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State is currently holding an emergency meeting with members of the State Executive Council following recent political happenings in the state.
The meeting is holding at the Chamber of the SEC of the Government House in Port Harcourt.
The meeting is coming on the heels of the defection of 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
NIGER DELTA TODAY Online reliably learnt that the meeting was summoned to discuss recent political happening in the state, especially the defection of the state lawmakers.
The development on Monday morning further widen the current political crisis between Governor Fubara and his predecessor and current Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nysem Wike.
Their defection was a fresh twist to the lingering political impasse between the governor and his political godfather, former governor Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Recall that lawmakers loyal to former Governor Wike had attempted to impeach Fubara, a situation, which resulted in the setting ablaze of the Rivers Assembly.
Despite the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, the crisis between Governor Fubara and Wike had remained unabated leading to the decamping of the FCT Ministers’ loyalists.
Our medium further learnt that the defection of the lawmakers is aimed at renewing their attempt to impeach the governor for the second.
