In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Hon Ovie Festus Agas, said the holiday was to enable voters residing outside their voting station to travel home to enable them vote for candidate of their choice.

A copy of the statement obtained by WARRI TODAY on Wednesday read, “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that in view of the Presidential Elections scheduled to hold nationwide on Saturday, 16th February, 2019, the State Government has declared Friday, 15th February, 2019 as a Public Holiday.

” The Public Holiday is to enable individuals who may have registered in areas other than their places of residence, to travel such areas in order to exercise their voting right. “

The statement, however, appealed to Deltans to eschew all forms of violence before, during and after the elections.
