The Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has joined the one-month warning strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
DELSU chapter of the body joined their colleagues after an emergency meeting of the association held on Wednesday in Abraka.
Sources at the meeting told our correspondent that DELSU ASUU chairman, Professor Godwin Demaki, presided over the meeting where members unanimously agreed to join the strike.
It was further gathered that members also adopted the resolutions of the national body before declaring to join the strike.
DELSU for years has not been participating ASUU activities following disagreement with the national leadership.
“All members unanimously resolved to join the warning strike for the next four weeks to press home the demands of our members nationwide”, a source who attended the meeting confided on NIGER DELTA TODAY.
Following DELSU chapter’s declaration, academic activities at the university were said to have been halted as lecturers stayed away from classrooms on Wednesday.
National leadership of ASUU on Monday declared a one-month warning strike over federal government failure to honour agreement reached for the funding of Nigerian universities.
