A hotel building still currently under construction directly opposite Delta Mall Asaba (Shoprite) has collapsed.
The building, proposed to be 20-storey, collapsed on Thursday evening causing panic among workers and residents of the state capital.
The multiple billion naira hotel building is said to be owned by billionaire businessman and founder of Rain Oil Group, Chief Gabriel Ogbechie.
It was however alleged that the family of the immediate past governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, also reportedly has an interest in the building. A claim NIGER DELTA TODAY Online could not immediately verified.
It was not clear the cause of the collapse but the scene of the incident has been cordon off by officials of State Emergency Management and security operatives.
Details of the incident were still sketchy at the time of filing this report.
This is coming barely hours after the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) flagged-off a two-day event in Asaba, the state capital.
Details soon…
