As more communities in Delta State continued to submerge to the ravaging flood, a top Nigerian comedian, Bovi Ugboma, has donated one million Naira (N1 million) to assist victims of the flood in the state.
No fewer than 10 local government areas in Delta state have been taken over by the ravaging flood with residents rendered homeless and properties including farmlands destroyed.
At least five persons in the Isoko axis of the state have reportedly died as a result of the rising flood which has sacked the people of Irri, Iyede-Ame, Umeh, Okpe Isoko, Uzere and other communities.
Among the councils affected by the flood are Isoko South, Isoko North, Patani, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East, Oshimili South, Bomadi and Burutu local government areas of the state.
Already, the popular Umeh Bridge in Isoko South LGA is said to be at the verge of collapsing, while the Ughelli/Port Harcourt section of the East-West Road in the Ughelli North and Patani LGA of the state have cut-off.
This is even as travellers and motorists using the Ughelli/Port Harcourt section of the road have been left stranded.
Trucks carrying petroleum products and other heavy duty vehicles have abandoned their vehicles for safety. Over 200 hundred trucks are said to be stranded on the road, sources told our correspondent on Friday.
No fewer than five vehicles have plunged into the flood around Umeh Junction of the Road where the flood has washed away both sides of the road.
Following slow response from federal, state and local governments, concerned indigenes of the two affected Isoko councils have started donating food, cash and other materials to victims to cushion their sufferings.
Bovi, who hails from Isoko area of the state, was among those who donated to help their kinsmen displaced by the flood.
The comedian, who recently renovated University of Benin Staff School in Benin, made the donation on Friday.
A frontline Isoko humanitarian advocate and lawyer, Mr. Duncan Afahokor, confirmed Bovi’s payment of the donation to NIGER DELTA TODAY.
Meanwhile, the people of Gbaregolor Federated Communities in Ughelli South have appealed to the Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to come to their aid as the ravaging flood has sacked them from their homes.
The President-General of Gbaregolor Federated Communities, Comrade Freeborn Ojavwighokia, lamented that some residents have been trapped in the five communities of Gbaregolor main town, Ekameta, Osusurhie, Oyan and Ovwieki.
He appealed to the government to assist the community leadership to evacuate their kinsmen to safe place and provide assistance to alleviate their sufferings.
