The Bayelsa State House of Assembly on Tuesday denied plans by lawmakers to impeach its speaker, Rt.Hon. Abraham Ngobere.
The House subsequently passed a vote of confidence on the speaker and its leadership.
It was alleged that there plots by some lawmakers to impeach Ndogere over unknown allegations leveled against him.
There were allegations that following the plot to impeach the embattled speaker, he reportedly fled the Assembly Complex with the House symbol of authority – Mace.
Bayelsa Assembly while debunking the rumour of impeachment described those behind the allegation as merchants of disunity and deliberate plot to destabilise the current political space in the state.
However, at Tuesday’s plenary session, the lawmakers while rubbishing the allegation noted that there was no iota of truth in the allegation.
Hon. Tari Porri, the member of the House representing Ekeremor Constituency 1, while moving a motion to reaffirm the confidence of the House on the Speaker for quality and unifying leadership of the 6th Assembly, said though the claims about the disappearance of the Speaker with the Mace was laughable, “the 6th Assembly has done well under Hon. Abraham Ngobere.
Hon.Porri noted that the State Assembly is where Democratic stability of a state is built, the alleged claims against the Assembly leadership should not be allowed,” under the Ngobere leadership, the House has passed 10 Bill’s and multiple motions including the prosperity Bill.”
