The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, says the attacker of Mr Elvis Omoiri, a supporter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, who was celebrating the ruling of the Presidential Election Petition affirming the election victory of President Muhammadu Buhari will be prosecuted.

Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central at the National Assembly, condemned the attack and repeated stabbing of the victim who is now battling for his life in a hospital in Effurun near Warri.

Omoiri, an operator of a drinking bar in the Okoloba area of Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, was attacked on Thursday by a supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Best Uduophori, over the trinunal judgement affirming the election victory of Buhari.

In a statement on Saturday signed by the Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Yomi Odunuga, called on the police in Delta State to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the culprit to book.

Omo-Agege noted that such vicious resort to self-help can never reverse PDP electoral and judicial losses to the ruling APC.

While expressing shock and dismay over the incident, he decried the use of violence in politics, stressing that the police and all political parties in Nigeria should further ensure measures to tackle the menace.

The Deputy President of the Senate, however, urged his constituents in Delta Central Senatorial district to keep calm and cooperate with the law enforcement agents investigating the matter.

“Even though our party, APC and President Muhammadu Buhari had a decisive populist electoral victory, as respecters of the law and democracy, we submitted ourselves to the judicial process and again, achieved incontrovertible victory.

“It is alarming to hear that, last Thursday when all Nigerians who respect the laws of the land were applauding the judicial triumph, someone from the other party took the loss so badly and allegedly took the laws into his own hands in such barbaric manner by attacking an APC loyalist with a broken bottle and almost snuffed out a life in the process.

“Again, I urge the police to ensure thorough investigation and prosecution as deemed necessary in the eyes of the law; our society must not condone such violence and all political parties have a duty to help give their members the orientation of due respect for the law.

“It is futile for anyone to hope that such barbaric reaction can help reverse an overwhelming electoral and judicial loss,” he stated.

  1. The Olomu people is at it again. The black sheep of Urhobo twenty four kingdoms who in connivance rigged the governorship election for Okowa and PDP. Their joy was short lived when Presidential Election Tribunal affirmed Mr Buhari as the winner. Their thoughts was that Buhari will be sacked so that PDP will will manipulate the tribunal as they are known for for Okowa. That heartless, moronic Best Udouphori must waste his time in the jail to serve as a deterrent to others.
