Attack On Police Station In Ex-President Jonathan’s Hometown Repelled


Operatives of the Bayelsa State Police Command have repelled an attack on a police station in former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Ogbia hometown of Bayelsa State.

The attack said to have occurred on Monday morning had policemen attached to the Ogbia Divisional Headquarters of the Ogbia Local Government Area of the state repelled.

Bayelsa Police spokesman, Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the attack, said the intention of the fleeing gunmen was to disposed policemen of their weapons.

Butwat stated that the suspected gunmen opened fire on the policemen on duty at the Ogbia Divisional Headquarters about 2.30 am but was successfully repelled by the gallant men of the Command.

He added that the swift response by the personnel forced the gunmen to retreat and escape through the waterways.

The police spokesman further noted that no life was lost in the attack.

“Tactical squads, the Marine Police and other security agencies have been alerted. Security operatives are making frantic efforts to identify the perpetrators and arrest them. Investigation is ongoing,” he added.
