The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved the expulsion of the former National Vice Chairman of the party, South-South, Hilliard Eta.
NEC, which is the apex decision making body of the APC, said Eta was expelled from the party for violating NEC’s instruction.
The former national vice chairman is an ally of the former National of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole.
He had recently dragged the leadership of the party to court seeking to be restated as the acting national chairman of the ruling party.
Oshiomhole on Monday disassociated himself from the suit, saying he was no longer interested to be national chairman of the party again.
The NEC meeting attended by President Muhammadu Buhari also approved the extension of the tenure of the Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) for another six months.
The NEC meeting was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and governors elected on the platform of the party.
Addressing journalists at the end of the emergency meeting, Governors Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Hope Uzodinma (Imo), and Secretary of the CECPC, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, said five resolutions were reached at the meeting.
They said NEC at the meeting also approved the dissolution of party organs from the smallest organ at the ward to national offices.
The party, however, condemned the call by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the impeachment of President Buhari over the deteriorating insecurity in the country.
The meeting was held at the Executive Council Chambers of the State House virtually while some party leaders were physically present.
