The Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Projects Monitoring and Audit, Engr. Goodnews Agbi, has tasked contractors handling Delta State Government’s road projects on the need to deliver quality jobs in line with the contract specification.
Agbi stated this on Tuesday when he paid a unscheduled inspection visit to the Isoko axis of the Ughelli/Asaba dual carriage with a spur to Oleh in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
He disclosed that the Governor Oborevwori’s administration is determined to ensure that standard roads and projects were delivered to the people of the state.
While at the road project site at Oleh, Agbi told the contractor that the soils in Oleh and its environs are largely alluvial hence proper sub-grade design, soil test, or geotechnical information of the soil is paramount to avoid the road failing in less than a year. Most potholes are the resultant effect of failure of sub-base and base courses.
He also urges the contractor that, after the earthwork and soil grading to the finish formation level, the contractor must ensure the Projects Monitoring Team visits the site for the sub-grade test before laying the wearing course.
He emphasized that the governor needs quality jobs as an infrastructural roadmaster, noting that the Directorate of Project Monitoring Team will not fail the governor in their effort to ensure quality jobs.
Meanwhile, at the Oleh roundabout, he repeated the same thing that was said in Oleh , that a proper sub-grade stabilization of the Oleh roundabout must be done before laying the wearing course and must be ascertained by the Monitoring Team.
He also urged the contractor that the governor wants quality jobs for the people of Delta State, hence he all jobs meet their design life span.
At the Ellu/Aradhe Ughelli Asaba sector of the road, he also met the supervisor there and emphasized again the same thing that the governor needs quality jobs, adding that the governor is in a hurry to give Deltans quality lives.
The contractor told Agbi that they are currently doing the shoulder of the Ellu/Aradhe road, and the contractor agreed that the Project Monitoring Team will be invited to inspect the compacted shoulder before laying the wearing course.
Engr. Dr. Agbi who has a Ph.D. and another Ph.D. in Structures (In-view) is a Fellow Nigeria Society of Engineers (FNSE), Fellow Nigeria Society of Civil Engineers (FNICE) and, a Fellow of Nigeria Institution of Structural Engineers (FNIstructE), at the Ogwashi-Ukwu bridge sector of the road also told the contractor (CCECC) that they should hasting up their job. Apart from giving quality jobs they should also need deliver on time because that portion is very important sector of the road.
He asked the engineers at the site that he discovered that only one part of the abutment is done, noting that the other one is not in place, that there is a pre-stress beams on site but no equipment and workers at the site and it look as if they have abandoned the site.
Meanwhile, the site engineers responded that they did not demobilized and that their equipment at their site office which is closed by, that they are waiting to remobilize when the rain stops.
The Special Adviser reiterated that quality jobs must be done across the state, irrespective of who the contractor handling the job is, noting that the governor is concerned with the quality of roads across Delta State.
