Again, ‘Yahoo Boy’ Crushes ‘Okada Rider’ To Death In Delta

At least one person has been crushed to death while another sustained life threatening injuries when a speeding vehicle rammed into a commercial motorcycle otherwise called Okoda around the Oton area of Sapele in Delta State.

It was gathered that the accident occurred around 8am on Monday by the popular New Farm area in the Sapele metropolis.

Sources in the area disclosed that the Okoda rider in his late 30s died on the spot while his passage, a woman, was rushed to the hospital.

The speeding vehicle was an unnumbered Mercedes-Benz GLK being driven by a suspected Yahoo Boy.

The driver was said have purchased the GLK last week thus it was yet to have been numbered before the crash.

The driver of the GLK was said to have rushed to the injured woman who was believed going to farm to hospital in Sapele with a tricycle also known as Keke.

Eyewitnesses said they feared if the woman would survive the fatal accident.

Residents of the area narrated that the Okoda man had picked the woman from Gana market area before the speeding GLK driver brushed them from behind.

“The accident happened right in my presence. The driver of the GLK was on speed and he crushed the okoda man and the passenger he was carrying to farm from behind.

“The Okoda man died on the spot while the GLK driver rushed the seriously injured passenger to hospital. We thought both occupants of the motorcycle were dead. I doubt if the woman would make it but except by the grace of God”, one of the residents told NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Sapele who confirmed the incident, said their operatives had recovered the car and damaged motorcycle from the scene of the accident.

The FRSC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak with press, added officials of the commission also evacuated the remains of the late Okoda rider to the Sapele Central Hospital Morgue.

This year alone, over 10 persons have died in accidents resulting from reckless driving by suspected Yahoo Boys in Sapele.

On Tuesday July 7, two persons in a fatal accident that occurred while police officers were chasing a man suspected to be Yahoo Boy in Sapele.

Similarly, on August 2, a suspected Yahoo Boy died alongside two other ladies in a car accident after their car collided with a stationary tanker carrying cements in the city.

When contacted, Delta Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the accident, saying “It was fatal. Somebody died but i am yet to get full report.
